What's a Mini-Pitch?

A Mini-Pitch is a small futsal-style soccer field to provide a safe place for kids to play.

Designed, engineered, and created by Musco Lighting to provide safer places to play the game, the Mini-Pitch System is ideal for transforming abandoned courts and other underutilized areas into places where children and families can come together in the spirit of teamwork, empowerment, and physical activity.

I WANT TO HELP

Why US Virgin Islands?

SOCCER

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and Kick It Forward is devoted to making the game available to all players, regardless of their background. A Mini-Pitch comes with lights, goals and benches so there is no question the value it would bring to this community.

COMMUNITY

A Mini-Pitch is not just a place to play. It's a place to make new friends and create shared experiences. With a Mini-Pitch at Lockhart Elementary School, it gives students a natural place to play throughout the day with the goal of fostering a greater sense of community around the game of soccer - plus all kids will need in order to play is a ball.

LOCATION

Arguably the most important piece of a Mini-Pitch project, the location is very important. Lockhart Elementary School is home to over 600 students in grades K-8 and located in the Charlotte Amalie community. The Mini-Pitch will offer thousands of families access to a free, safe and accessible place to gather, stay active and play the beautiful game of soccer.

What the Organizers are Saying

"Highly utilizing space and providing equal access are values that we strongly support through our work with Kick It Forward and the Mini-Pitch initiative. We are excited to see the commitment put forth by the US Virgin Islands Department of Education to develop sustainable soccer ecosystems that will help the USVI youth grow and develop their skills."

- Jeff Rogers, President, Musco Lighting

"Any involvement with soccer can be the beginning of a very bright future. I am so excited to see three organizations (The Virgin Islands Department of Education, Musco Lighting, and Kick It Forward) work together to provide unique and one-of-a-kind opportunities to the children at Lockhart Elementary School."

-Carol Howell, US Virgin Island Resident, Founder of New Vibes Soccer Club

"The game of soccer has created so many opportunities for me. Life-long friendships, learning to overcome obstacles, problem solving, teamwork, time management--all those life skills I use every day can be attributed to soccer. We look forward to giving the kids of Lockhart Elementary School, St. Thomas and the entire US Virgin Islands the feeling of playing in a 'mini-stadium' and filling their appetite for soccer.

- Matt Sahag, Founder, Kick it Forward
